Make Yourself at Home

As the world begins to open up and people start gathering in each others' homes again, I'm thinking it's a great time to spruce up my living space. And I can admit that my regular monthly deep cleaning schedule has not been met over the past year, so cleaning and redecorating is all I can think of right now. We've never been the kind of couple who entertain frequently, but at least a couple of times a month we'd have the neighbors over for dinner or an out of town guest would swing through town. It feels like forever ago, but I'm starting to get excited because we have our first houseguest in almost 2 years arriving at the end of the month! Basically, I'm in "beast nesting" mode!

If you've been following me for even a short time, you'll know I've been experimenting with indigo dye a lot lately, and I couldn't help but make a couple of pillow covers. Listed in the shop is my first set of 2 throw pillow covers, featuring this shibori dyed linen with envelope closures. Included with purchase is a free pillow insert made from muslin fabric filled with zero waste sewing room scraps. Win, win! I'll likely be making more and uploading them to the shop 2 at a time.

If you're thinking of staining your own hands blue, there are a number of kits out there with coordinating online instructions that walk you through the entire process. It's really fun! I've also been collecting onion skins and avocado pits for a few weeks in order to try some "food scrap" dyes. I feel a little like a scientist (and a little like a hoarder) but I love using something that would normally just end up in a compost heap. Stay tuned for the results!
